Rev. Michael BeckwithWhile I am not a fan of The Secret, I am a fan of Rev. Michael Beckwith. He had a terrific sermon at the Agape International Spiritual Center today. The subject of his talk was "Change Your Story, Reveal Your Glory." He said that when we get caught up in the "story" that we are not good enough, we can get caught up in being a consumer, instead of a creator. (He certainly said this better than I am reporting it.) Then we feel we need to conquer, not create. The memes of "consume and conquer" are very much embedded in our Western culture. For example, he pointed out that the Western world reported Sir Edmund Hillary as "conquering" Everest, while the Eastern world said that he "befriended" the mountain. So we need to step back and be aware of the messages that we are drinking up on a daily basis. By changing our story, we can connect with our inner "glory," that well of spirit that makes us children of God. Good stuff to meditate on... |
