Definition of the New Age Mind Fuck

I have just created a new term. You'll have to pardon its crassness, but I am calling it the New Age Mind Fuck (or NAMF for short).
A "mind fuck" is defined thusly (thanks, Wiktionary):
a situation which calls into question the way your mind currently sees a certain idea or the world in general
Thus, a New Age Mind Fuck is a situation whereby your perceptions are called into question through the twisting of new age or spiritual principles.
A common example of a New Age Mind Fuck is where a person objects to your valid concerns or criticisms and uses the "you created your own reality" meme to confuse the issue.
For example, let's say your husband is cheating on you. You're not sure, but you have a gut feeling about it. In a regular mind fuck, he'll respond, "How dare you question my loyalty after all the things I do for you?"
In a New Age Mind Fuck, he may respond by saying "Obviously, you have some issues you are working out. Remember, we create our own reality. I can't possibly "cheat" on you - you are cheating on yourself, and creating this problem in your mind."
The New Age Mind Fuck is particularly insidious, because it's often said with a smile, and it is designed to push deep buttons about our "stuff." It works because you may be feeling unsure of yourself, trying eagerly to please, and are afraid of being the "bad guy."
The purpose of the NAMF is to deflect criticism away from the receiver and put it all on you. It is designed to make you question yourself and can be very damaging to your self-esteem if not observed and dissected.
The Law of Attraction is particularly useful in creating deflective New Age Mind Fucks, because virtually any criticism can be shooed away with the dismissive "but this is just you attracting this!"
Don't throw away your discernment just because you want to be spiritual. Sometimes criticisms are valid and important.

He's right about the fact that you make your own reality. Which means that as soon as you hear some crap like that, you need to say F.O. and leave him in his own bullshit. Yet, there was something about this book that left me cold. (Perhaps it was kreditkort my ego reacting?) For a man who tells us to get out of dualistic, black and white thinking, Tolle seems to be very caught up in the notion that the ego is a horrible thing that is the primary cause of all wars and suffering in the world.
